Background
The Centre for Applied Legal Research (CALR) is an independent research institute that seeks to empower people, organizations and governments with sound and evidence-based legal and policy solutions and services that enhance development. In furthering its mandate, CALR intends to recruit the following;
- Position: 1 x Projects Officer
Grade: C3 – C5
Supervisor: Projects Coordinator
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The organisation seeks to recruit a dynamic Projects Officer who will be responsible for executing legal research as well as M&E duties. This expected duties and responsibilities will entail:
Legal Research Roles
- Conducting timely and accurate research and analysis on various areas of the law
- Determining and designing research methodologies for research assignments
- Investigating and evaluating sources of data for empirical research
- Ensuring accuracy, quality and relevance of research outputs
- Professional review and editing of CALR research outputs and legal publications
- Assisting in the preparation of draft legislative texts
- Specialised legal training and capacity development
- Contributing to legal knowledge generation
- Legal analysis, legal advice and legal writing
Monitoring and Evaluation roles
- Monitoring and Evaluation of CALR’s projects (including designing and implementing M&E plans)
- Proactively participating in planning of new projects and reviewing of existing ones, ensuring that M&E is prominent from the onset;
- Developing M&E tools and supervising their administration;
- Conducting project reviews and evaluations; and participating in external reviews and evaluations of the organisation’s activities;
- Continuously monitoring programmes to assess progress and results and identifying challenges; and
- Developing monthly, quarterly and annual reports
Qualifications and Work Experience Required
The ideal candidate should have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law;
- Advanced qualifications in Law or Social Sciences;
- At least 3 years’ experience in conducting legal research (including samples of previous work);
- Qualifications and proven work experience in monitoring and evaluation;
- Understanding of CSO operational environment;
- Experience in project management;
- Outstanding English writing and editing skills; and
- A demonstrable commitment to the promotion of applied legal research.
NB Kindly take note that only candidates with qualifications in Law and M&E will be considered for this position.

Grade: C3 – C5
Supervisor: Legal Researcher/Projects Coordinator
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Assisting in conducting timely and accurate research and analysis on various areas of the law
- Assisting in determining and designing research methodologies for research assignments
- Investigating and evaluating sources of data for empirical research
- Assisting in the preparation of draft legislative texts
- Assisting in specialised legal training and capacity development
- Contributing to legal knowledge generation
- Legal analysis, legal advice and legal writing
- Assisting in project management
Qualifications and Work Experience Required
The ideal candidate should have: Degree in Law from a reputable institution; outstanding English writing and editing skills; relevant experience in conducting legal research (including samples of legal research outputs) and a demonstrable commitment to the promotion of applied legal research.
